Five tips on how to optimise your online job search
Published: 10 Jun 2015
Living in a digital age, the internet has re-shaped the way in which we look for jobs. Being at the forefront of the digital recruitment revolution, we at GlobalSportsJobs have acquired vast experience in the do’s and don’ts of applying for jobs. Here’s our five top tips on how to optimise your job search via the GlobalSportsJobs platforms:
1.Define your search
Be clear on what type of role you are searching for. You must be diligent in defining your search and be clear to yourself in exactly what you want. Think about which sector in sport you would like to work in, then think about what function best suits your experience. Are you on the lookout for your first job in sport or have you built up your experience and are looking to take the next step in your career?
2.Play to your strengths
Applicants have a wide variety of skills and some can turn their hand to most things but remember, your CV needs to show your strengths. With recruiters having so many CVs to look through, it is evidence of these skills that will stop you being filtered out. Your most relevant experience should be the focus of your CV. Try to keep your CV short (up to two pages) and remove anything that is not relevant to the role. Equally, your covering letter should let the recruiting organisation know why you are a perfect fit for the job you are applying for.
3.Keep your application simple
The best way to grab an employer’s attention is to focus on concise points that make an impact and show off your relevant skills. First impressions are crucial and if you can pack a punch with everything you write, you are much more likely to get your application through to the next stage.
While online job boards showcase more job opportunities to candidates, they also provide employers with a greater number of applicants. This increased competition means that even when it seems you are the perfect candidate for a role, there may be someone else who has already excelled in a very similar position meaning you may narrowly miss out. Don’t let this get you down and keep applying for the roles that fit your experience.
5.Speak multiple languages?
Don’t forget that GlobalSportsJobs runs four language platforms that list a variety of different roles. While GlobalSportsJobs.com is tailored to English-speaking candidates, our .de, .fr & .cn platforms cater for our German, French and Asian audiences respectively. If you speak multiple languages, it is worth searching for available roles on each relevant GlobalSportsJobs platform to see all suitable job postings.
We hope that these tips help you get the most out of your search on GlobalSportsJobs.
