The appointment will be until August 2021

Days:

Approximately 1 day per month equivalent, including Board Meetings every 3 months

Remuneration:

Tournament Overview
In July 2021, England will host the UEFA Women’s European Championships after being awarded the right to host in December 2018.  Having previously hosted the Tournament in 2005, England aims to deliver a record-breaking Tournament for UEFA, a fantastic experience for everyone involved and a legacy for Women’s and Girls’ Football.  The final will be staged at Wembley Stadium, seeing back-to-back men’s and women’s UEFA Euro Finals in 2020 and 2021.

Our vision is to make UEFA Women’s Euro 2021 the biggest showcase for Women’s Football yet seen in Europe.  We will use the Tournament to increase the visibility, engagement and investment into Women’s and Girls’ football, as well as driving participation at grassroots level.

Tournament Governance
The English FA proposes that in delivering UEFA’s requirements of the Staging Agreement for UEFA EURO 2021, The English FA will manage its responsibilities and obligations within the existing FA Group structure facilitating the use of existing systems and resources.  The English FA will however set up a EURO 2021 Board – an inclusive group of decision-making stakeholders empowered to deliver UEFA EURO 2021 – with overall accountability for the Tournament.  It is anticipated that the Euro 2021 Board will receive delegated authority from the FA Board for all decisions related to the management of the Tournament.

All Tournament obligations and requirements will be carried out by a dedicated team, specifically hired to deliver the event – known as the ‘Local Organising Committee’ (LOC), as outlined above, this will sit within The English FA as a dedicated department (same department delivering Euro 2020) with its own dedicated Senior Management Team.

EURO 2021 Board

The Euro 2021 Board will be responsible for:

  1. Determining the vision & mission for the tournament, and monitoring the objectives set against it.
  2. Approving and monitoring the event budget and risks.
  3. Approving key operational and commercial strategies
  4. Consideration and management of event stakeholder proposals and concerns.

The role

  • To help ensure that the Board demonstrates the highest standards of integrity at all times and that the Tournament is run in a transparent and equitable manner;
  • In conjunction with the Euro 2021 Board and LOC Senior Management Team, develop and execute the vision for the Tournament;
  • To act as a member of the Board offering independent guidance, support, expertise and an objective perspective to the executive as required, ensuring that the organisation has a robust, workable and viable operational strategy, and monitoring the performance of the organisation (and the executive management) against that strategy;
  • To sit on specialist sub-groups of the Board as appropriate and agreed, particularly in respect of the specific skills and experience that the independent director brings;
  • To help identify and manage any conflicts of interest that might arise within the Board;
  • To maintain positive relationships with major external stakeholders.
  • Promote the long-term interests of Women’s and Girls’ football and The English FA across a diverse range of activities;

Knowledge, experience and specialist skills

  • Specific experience in marketing, communication and promotion of major events, ticketing, and oversight of major events delivery (outdoor events preferred).
  • Passionate about the success of the Tournament, and able to demonstrate a deep interest in and knowledge of Women’s football, including the national game and grassroots level;
  • A strategic and collaborative approach to objective setting and decision-taking with the ability to facilitate focussed and relevant discussions;
  • Tenacious and diplomatic, with a strong track record of strategic leadership in business, public service or sport, with the ability to identify and critically assess opportunities and threats in order to develop effective strategies and solutions;
  • The intellect and natural curiosity to contribute widely to discussion, drawing on experience that will be credible to a variety of stakeholders;
  • A progressive thinker who can use their skill and experience to foster a culture that respects diversity and is inclusive;
  • Able to demonstrate the highest standards of integrity at all times;
  • Evidence of success in your chosen career, good all-round business acumen with proven experience, skills and knowledge of the requirements to lead a successful company;
  • Keen and willing to travel to attend fixtures and events, in addition to attending Board meetings.
