Basketball NSW (BNSW) is the peak body responsible for the governance and management of the sport of basketball in NSW. Basketball is an all-inclusive sport with opportunities to play across all genders, age and disabilities. BNSW has been playing and enjoying “the game” since 1938 and today has over 55,000 (and growing) registered members from 86 basketball associations across NSW.
Basketball NSW has consolidated entities of $12m which include a Travel Company, a Basketball Education Campus and Sports Stadium Management and facilities.
As CEO you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day management of Basketball NSW and its subsidiaries, and is accountable for driving and delivering the commercial and strategic priorities as set by the Board.
The new CEO will embrace this established sport and work to further improve governance, financial success and the stability required to adapt to future challenges and build to new levels of achievement. A key focus will be on increasing membership as well as working closely with Government to secure a rapid expansion of playing facilities across the state.
To be considered for this role you will need to be a dynamic and inspirational leader, with the ability to engage and develop lasting, positive relationships with the stakeholder family. Your commercial acumen will be matched by your skill in identifying and then capitalising on opportunities. You will need to demonstrate a successful track record in managing and growing like-sized businesses. You will have the skill to navigate through complex issues prioritising, managing and delivering outcomes that fulfil the commercial and strategic priorities of Basketball NSW.
Given the popularity and profile of the sport of basketball and the quantum of Basketball NSW’s operations, this role is clearly one of the prized sport-business positions in Australia. Prior experience in the not-for-profit sector, including sport business, and/or a background in basketball will be highly regarded, however is not considered essential.
